Before I explain anything, let me show you. Here's one result I'm sharing, from my client Raipur Wedding Photography. I've done this for plenty of other businesses; this one is simply the easiest to show you in full.
An average map rank of 1.12 across Raipur
In a Semrush scan for "wedding photographer in raipur" on 30 September 2026, their average rank across the city was 1.12. Every grid point landed in the "Good" range, and every competitor in the scan had a worse average rank, including studios with hundreds more reviews. A month earlier, the same scan read 1.48.
Ranked at all 121 points, up to 14 miles out
GMB Radar checks a much bigger area: 121 points spreading up to 14.22 miles from the centre. The profile ranked at every single point, with an average rank of 1.93. It isn't number one everywhere. One patch on the east side still sits between positions 4 and 9, and I'd rather show you that than hide it.
470 customer actions in six months
Rankings are nice, but this is what they're for. Between April and September 2026, the profile brought in 470 interactions: calls, chat messages, bookings, direction requests and website clicks. After a dip in May, every month since June has stayed well above where it started.
Rankings change with the searcher's location, device and time. These screenshots are from the dates shown.
Your profile is often the first thing a customer sees. Before your website, before your Instagram, before you.
Check my profile for freeMost people still call it GMB. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile (GBP) a few years ago, but the idea hasn't changed. It's the listing that appears with your name, photos, reviews, hours and a call button when someone looks for you, or for what you do, nearby.
It shows up in two places that matter: the map pack at the top of a normal Google search, and Google Maps itself. For a lot of local buyers, that listing is your business. They call straight from it, get directions from it, and never visit your website at all.
Google Business Profile optimization is the work of making that listing as complete, accurate and convincing as it can be. The goal is simple: Google shows it to more of the right people, and more of those people pick up the phone. Good optimization isn't about tricks. It's about giving Google, and your customers, fewer reasons to doubt you.
For most local businesses, it's the single biggest piece of local SEO. It's also the piece most owners set up once, years ago, and never touch again. That's good news for you, because it means the gap between you and the business above you is often smaller than it looks.
Google is surprisingly open about this. Its own help page on local ranking says local results come down mainly to three things: relevance, distance and prominence.
Relevance is how well your profile matches what someone searched for. Distance is how far you are from the person searching. Prominence is how well known and trusted you are, which includes your ratings and how many other websites mention you.
Google also says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up. You can't move your shop closer to every customer. But relevance and prominence are completely in your hands, and that's exactly where my work sits.
Think about how you choose a dentist or a restaurant. You search, you see three options, and you pick the one with the best photos, the most recent reviews and the clearest information. You probably don't even notice you're doing it.
Your customers do exactly the same. A listing with the wrong category, three old photos and unanswered reviews doesn't just rank lower. Even when it does show up, it loses the click to the business next to it. That's the part most owners never see, because a customer who chooses someone else never calls to tell you.
Here's everything I cover. Not every business needs every piece in the same order, so I always start with whatever is holding yours back the most.
Every project starts with a profile audit. I go through your listing line by line, then study the business profiles already sitting in the map pack you want to be in: their categories, ratings, photos, posts, website content and how often they're active. Only then does any optimization start.
That tells me exactly what the gap is in your market, not in some generic checklist. A salon in Pune and a law firm in Texas need very different things, and the audit shows me what yours needs.
Your primary category is one of the most important settings in your whole profile, and it's the one I see set wrong most often. I choose it based on what the top-ranking businesses in your area use, then add secondary categories that cover what else you genuinely do.
Then the details: your business name exactly as it appears on your signage, your address or service area, phone number, opening hours, holiday hours, attributes, products and a description that explains what you do in plain language.
I also build out the services section properly. Each service gets its own entry and a short, clear description, written the way customers actually describe what they need. A bakery that only lists "cakes" misses the person searching for a birthday cake, an eggless cake or a wedding cake. Service-level detail is some of the most underused optimization in the whole profile.
Profile completeness matters because Google can only match you to searches it understands. Every empty field is a question Google has to guess the answer to, and it usually guesses in favour of someone else.
Photos are often the first thing people look at, sometimes before they even read your name. I help you plan what to upload: your storefront so people recognise it when they arrive, your team, your work and the inside of your space.
Photos are content too, so we keep new ones going up over time. Real photos from your business beat stock images every time, because customers can tell the difference, and they want to see what they'll actually get.
Google Posts let you share offers, updates, events and new work right on your listing. Most businesses post twice and give up.
I write and schedule regular posts, from a new service to a seasonal offer, so your profile looks alive and gives customers a reason to act today, not someday. A listing that looks abandoned feels risky, even when the business behind it is excellent. Good post content also gives people one more reason to choose you over the listing next door, and it's content I write for you, so you don't have to think about it.
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking, and customers read them before they call. For most businesses, this is also the fastest way to stand out from a listing that looks similar on paper. So I set up a simple review process that fits how your business already works: who asks, when they ask, and how the customer reaches your review link in as few taps as possible.
I also handle review response. Every review gets a reply, including the difficult ones, written so the next person reading feels confident choosing you.
One thing I won't do is buy reviews or write fake ones. It breaks Google's rules, and it can put your whole listing at risk. Genuine reviews from real customers take a little longer, but they're the only kind that last.
Your business name, address and phone number, known as NAP, appear on dozens of directories you've probably never visited, from Justdial and Sulekha to Facebook, Bing Places and industry sites.
When those details don't match your profile, Google becomes less sure which information is right, and that uncertainty costs you visibility. I audit your listings, fix what's wrong, remove duplicates where I can, and build new citations where they matter for your industry and your location.
Your profile links to your website, and Google reads both. If your profile says you're a wedding photographer in Raipur and your homepage just says "capturing beautiful moments", the two don't support each other.
I make sure the page your listing links to clearly says what you do, where you do it and how to book, with LocalBusiness schema so search engines can read it easily. The content on that page should match the categories and services on your GBP, word for word where it makes sense, so Google sees one consistent story. This is where profile work meets the wider local SEO on your website, and it's often the missing piece when a strong-looking listing still won't climb.
Your competitors didn't reach the top by accident. Let me show you exactly what they're doing that you're not.
Get my free GMB auditNo mystery and no black box. Here's what working with me actually looks like, step by step.
Send me your profile link on WhatsApp. Within 48 hours, I'll send you a short video walking through it. The free audit covers:
Before you pay anything, I'll tell you what's realistic for your market and roughly how long it should take. If I don't think I can help, I'll tell you that too.
Once we agree on a plan, I fix the biggest problems first: categories, business details, photos, every service you offer, listings across the web, and the page your profile links to.
This is where the heavy optimization work happens. In my experience, it's also where most of the early movement comes from, because you stop losing to competitors on things that were simply missing or wrong. Foundations first, then everything else builds on them.
A Business Profile isn't a one-time job. Competitors update their listings, Google adds new features, and anyone can suggest edits to your information without telling you. A wrong phone number or opening time can sit there for weeks before anyone notices.
So ongoing profile management covers fresh content, posts and photos, review replies, checking for unwanted edits, and adjusting the plan as your market changes. Think of it as ongoing optimization rather than a one-off fix. You run your business; I keep your listing working.
A ranking screenshot taken from one spot tells you almost nothing. Where your customer is standing when they search changes what they see, sometimes completely. So I measure visibility the way your customers actually experience it: across your whole area, on Google Maps and in normal search results.
I use geo-grid scans in tools like GMB Radar and Semrush. They check your position from dozens of points across your area at once, so we can see where your visibility is strong, where it fades out, and whether that circle is growing every month. It's also how I prove the optimization is working, instead of asking you to take my word for it.
The Raipur scans above are exactly this. Each dot is a real position from a real spot in the city, not an average that hides the weak areas. It's the most honest way I know to track what actually boosts local visibility.
Rankings are only half the story. Inside your Business Profile, Google shows how many people called you, asked for directions, messaged you or clicked through to your website. That's the number I care about most, because it's the closest thing to a customer walking through your door. Better results in the map pack should show up here, as real people taking real action.
Every month you get simple reporting: what I changed, what moved in the rankings, and how many people took action. No jargon and no 20-page PDF designed to look busy. If something isn't working, I'll say so and change course.
Every day your profile stays half-finished, someone nearby chooses the business above you.
Send my profile on WhatsAppI'm Nikhil Batra, an independent SEO consultant from Bilaspur, India. I started learning SEO in 2022, while I was still finishing my graduation. Since then I've completed 975+ orders on Fiverr with a 5.0 rating, for clients in the USA, South Korea, China, Norway and many other countries.
I've done this optimization work for all kinds of local businesses, mostly clinics, salons, photographers, restaurants, coaching institutes and contractors. These are businesses where the owner knows exactly what one new customer is worth, which makes our conversations refreshingly practical.
When you work with me, you work with me. No account manager, no hand-offs, and no report written by someone who has never looked at your business. Everything I change is visible to you, and the service is built around your business, not a fixed package.
And I won't promise you a guaranteed number one. Google itself says there's no way to pay for a better local ranking, so anyone promising one is guessing. What I promise is honest work, honest timelines and reporting that shows whether it's bringing you customers.
If your listing is suspended, stuck in verification or showing someone else's details, that comes before anything else, because a suspended listing has no visibility at all. I'll help you work out why it happened, fix whatever triggered it, and put together a clean reinstatement or verification request with the evidence Google asks for.
I can't control Google's decision on a suspension, and I won't pretend otherwise. But I can make sure your case is as strong and as clean as possible, and that the same problem doesn't come back.
More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Mode who to hire. Those tools lean on the same things your profile is built on: accurate details, genuine ratings and consistent information across the web, including what they can read on Google Maps.
The same Raipur client above is now named by Google's AI Overview, ChatGPT and Perplexity when couples ask who to hire. If that matters to you, my AI SEO services go deeper, and my local SEO services cover the rest of your local presence.
It depends on how much work your profile needs, how competitive your market is, and whether you want a one-time setup or ongoing management. A single location in a quiet town needs far less than a multi-location business in a crowded city. I quote after the free audit, so you only pay for what your listing actually needs, whether that's one-off GBP optimization or a monthly service. The same goes for wider Google optimization of your website: I price it once I've seen what's there.
Fixes like categories and missing details can start moving things within a few weeks, but it varies a lot by market. In a competitive city, building enough reviews and prominence to hold a top-three spot usually takes a few months. I'll give you an honest estimate for your market in the audit, and you'll see the results in the monthly tracking as they come.
No. AI tools still need somewhere to get their information, and for local businesses a big part of that is Google Business Profiles, reviews and business listings. If anything, a well-optimized listing matters more now, because it feeds both the map pack and the AI answers people read. Local search optimization has changed shape, but it hasn't gone anywhere.
No. Google shut down Google Optimize on 30 September 2023. It's easy to mix up because of the name, but Optimize was a website testing tool and had nothing to do with your Business Profile. If you came here looking for help getting your business found on Google, you're in the right place.
